'Star-crossed lovers' spotted having sex

A "PAIR of star-crossed lovers" caught having sex in an Old Town close in full view of the public were admonished by a sheriff after they both expressed their extreme embarrassment.

Robert Workman, 27, and 38-year old Carol Etches, both of Murrayburn Gardens, pleaded guilty at the city's Sheriff Court yesterday to committing a breach of the peace by engaging in a sexual act in the World's End Close on the Royal Mile on September 21.

The pair's amorous encounter was spotted at about 8.30pm by a member of staff at the World's End pub when he went out to smoke a cigarette.

Defence agent Mark Hutchison described the couple as "a pair of star-crossed lovers". They had, he said, been separated when Workman received a custodial sentence and got carried away after being reunited.
