Standstill on bypass after car flips over

DRIVERS were hit with a three-quarter mile tailback on the city bypass after a car flipped on its side after hitting the central reservation while turning onto a slip road.

The Toyota Corolla Verso was left straddling both lanes after the accident on the A720 at 9.30am yesterday.

Ambulance, police and fire crews attended the scene but the driver and passenger managed to get out unaided.

The fire service cleared debris from the road and re-opened one lane. Traffic was temporarily bypassed through Musselburgh causing long queues until 10.40am, when both lanes were opened.
