Stair patrols make big difference

EXTRA patrols have been carried out by police to combat antisocial behaviour in common stairs in the Niddrie area.

Police and council staff have conducted regular checks of stairs in a bid to combat the problem following complaints from residents.

The patrols have been carried out in recent months, and police said that the impact of the increased scrutiny had already been felt.

Figures showed that there was a 50 per cent reduction in calls to the force about antisocial behaviour in October.

Council workers also completed rubbish removal from stairs in the area and reviewed stairwell security.

Residents received home visits to provide them with security advice.
