Staff trained to spot abuse

THE entire workforce of a city housing association is to be trained to spot signs of neglect and abuse in its residents.

Around 250 staff at Dunedin Canmore - including repairs and finance staff -will be put through the courses to improve the care of those using the service.

Bosses at the organisation want staff to speak up if they suspect signs of trauma or exploitation among what is one of the most vulnerable groups.

Ewan Fraser, chief executive, said: "We aim to give staff the confidence to report any concerns to an appropriate person and reports may then be passed to partner agencies which could help ease their distress and improve that person's life.

"It's about being part of the community - good neighbours look out for each other and Dunedin Canmore is looking out for vulnerable tenants."
