Staff hop to it for charity

A RECESSION-hit small animal shelter raised more than £700 during a "sponsored hop".

Paws Here, on Comiston Road, has been struggling to cope with an influx of abandoned and abused pets, such as rabbits and rodents, since the beginning of the credit crunch.

To help alleviate the crisis, which bosses believe has been caused by owners dumping their pets when they can no longer afford to pay for them, the shelter held an open day and fundraiser on Saturday.

Central to the fundraiser was the sponsored hop, in which staff and supporters dressed as rabbits for the day. Shelter worker Marie Barker said: "We raised over 700. We were an interesting sight on Saturday."
