Staff get new advice on CPR

HEALTH workers are being given fresh guidelines on attempting resuscitation on very ill patients.

NHS Lothian is catching up with clinicians after the country's chief medical officer said policy on CPR attempts should apply across all care settings.

Dr Juliet Spiller, a consultant in palliative medicine at the city's Marie Curie hospice, said: "Many patients with advanced life-limiting illness would choose a death which is as natural, dignified and peaceful as possible, with their loved ones beside them.

An inappropriate CPR attempt prevents any of those end-of-life care choices being fulfilled."
