St John's kidney unit work hailed

PROGRESS at a kidney unit in St John's Hospital has been welcomed by campaigners.

A consultant from the Livingston hospital's renal unit said the work being done there meant no West Lothian patients who needed dialysis were having to travel to Edinburgh.

In addition, Dr Paddy Gibson said St John's was actually treating the ERI's patients and some from the Borders.

A spokesman for the Stop the Downgrade campaign said: "We have always sought to fully support St John's departments and their staff.

"The dialysis unit at St John's has achieved a high level of performance feedback from patients and visiting staff as well comparing favourably with similar units in the region."
