Spey tragedy angler named by police

THE angler who was swept to his death while salmon fishing on the River Spey has been named.

William Richmond's body was recovered from the river after the accident on Wednesday in the Advie Bridge area, about eight miles from Grantown-on-Spey.

The 68-year-old from Middlesex had been with a party of anglers staying at the nearby Tulchan Estate, described by locals as an upmarket destination for wealthy fishermen.

A spokesman for Northern Constabulary which co-ordinated the search said: "We would like to thank all the agencies involved and a number of members of the public for their assistance in the search."

A canoeist from the rescue team discovered the body just before 4pm on Wednesday.
