Speeding drivers targeted in new police crackdown

SPEEDING drivers are being targeted in a new crackdown today.

Lothian and Borders is joining other forces across the country for the 24 hour Day of Action co-ordinated by the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS).

The initiative is part of the Scottish Police Service's year-round commitment to reduce the number of casualties on roads. The campaign is run to coincide with the start of the week in which most children return to school following the summer break.

Increased patrols, both marked and unmarked, will be on the lookout for motorists breaking the law.

Officers will also be targeting drivers not wearing seatbelts.

Chief Superintendent Charlie Common from Lothian and Borders Police said: "Far too many motorists are willing to ignore speed limits and seatbelt regulations. This demonstrates a total disregard for road safety."
