Spectacular views in store at Primark

SPECTACULAR views of Edinburgh Castle and the city centre are to be opened up to the public for the first time, under plans to create a new Primark store on Princes Street.

The fashion retailer has submitted a detailed planning application to the council for a new flagship store on Princes Street.

The plans have revealed that the upper floors of the building would be opened to the public for the first time, with huge windows allowing customers a chance to take in the breathtaking sights of the city centre.

Primark is applying to open a 75,000sq ft outlet on the site of the former Marks & Spencer building at 91-93 Princes Street. It would be the chain's 18th store in Scotland.

The company worked with city architect 3DReid to come up with a design which helps fulfil the "string of pearls" concept for Princes Street.

Councillor Tom Buchanan, convener for economic development, said: "Like us, Primark recognise the tremendous potential of Princes Street as a shopping destination.

"Not only will this development provide a welcome boost to our retail offering but it will also create a great many jobs during these difficult times."
