South Lanarkshire toxic waste site protests will continue

THE group protesting against plans for a toxic waste incinerator for South Lanarkshire are planning a series of public demonstrations to highlight their campaign.

The Dovesdale Action Group has said it will continue the protest again the proposed development despite reports that the landowner, David Hamilton, says he will continue to live next to the potentially hazardous plant should it be given planning consent.

"Our protest is gaining momentum amongst the people of South Lanarkshire and the Clyde Valley especially and we aim to keep this going with a series of demonstrations in the area," said Dovesdale Action Group leader Paul McGillivray.

"These protests will highlight the impact this plant could have on this area in terms of traffic congestion, the environment and on health matters which the public have naturally highlighted to us throughout."

Regarding the landowner, Mr McGillivray added: "If Mr Hamilton wishes to live in the shadow of waste stacks - including a 150-foot high chimney - that is entirely his choice."
