Soldier's funeral to be held in Capital

THE funeral of a soldier killed in Afghanistan three weeks ago is to be held in Edinburgh next week.

Private Sean Gordon McDonald, 26, from Currie, was leading a routine night patrol in the Sangin district of Helmand on 7 February when he was killed by an improvised explosive device.

He will be remembered at a service at Mortonhall Crematorium Main Chapel on Tuesday , to which all friends are invited.

Family flowers only have been requested and donations in his name will be given to the Mark Wright Project Centre, a veterans charity based in Dalkeith.

Pte McDonald was serving with The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (1 Scots), which is based at Dreghorn Barracks.

He was nearing the end of his six-month tour attached to the 3rd Battalion The Rifles (3 Rifles).

His funeral arrangements were announced on the same day that another soldier in the battle group was killed in Sangin.
