Snap up web challenge to picture sites

AMATEUR photographers have been set the challenge of taking pictures of two East Lothian museums for an online encyclopedia site.

Wikipedia has asked snappers to take images of Prestongrange Museum and John Muir's Birthplace on 14 February.

Both museums will offer free tours that day to help photographers capture the museums, their objects and the local area.

The idea for the event began with a project carried out in Manhattan where students spent the day capturing the area, as well as the rest of New York City, to create a photographic encyclopedia of the city.

Councillor Paul McLennan said: "Wikipedia is visited by millions of people every day and its popularity comes from the fact it is entirely written by members of the public. Having two of our museums included in the project launch is a great chance to show the world what East Lothian has to offer."
