S&N takeover hit by claims

THE takeover of Edinburgh-based brewer Scottish & Newcastle by Heineken is to be examined by a House of Commons select committee after allegations that the firm broke promises to tens of thousands of pensioners.

The Business, Innovation and Skills select committee will take up the case after lobbying by the S&N Pensions Group. The group says Heineken did not fulfil undertakings given to S&N OAPs before the 2008 takeover and has abandoned a decades-long policy of inflation-linked pension increases. Heineken denies the claim.
