Smoke scare delays train

FIREFIGHTERS were called to Haymarket station yesterday when smoke was seen coming from underneath a train.

The Virgin trains service from Birmingham was held up at the station while staff checked the source of the smoke, but was allowed to complete its journey to Waverley after a short delay.

A Virgin trains spokesman said the fire service had been called as a routine precaution: "There was smoke seen from under the train which we think may have just been a warm engine."
