Standard Life Investments (SLI) has named company veteran Euan Stirling as its new head of responsible investing.

Stirling, a senior fund manager and investment analyst in the firm’s UK equity team, joined the Edinburgh-based fund manager in 2001 from Schroder Investment Management.

His appointment to the newly created role as the firm’s head of stewardship and ESG (environmental, social and governance) investment follows the announcement in October that Guy Jubb, SLI’s high-profile corporate governance champion, was retiring after more than three decades with the Standard Life group.

SLI chief investment officer Rod Paris said: “It is testament to the depth of talent we have in our investment team that we have been able to fill this role internally.

“Euan’s expertise in company analysis, portfolio management and client relations equip him well to ensure that the outstanding stewardship capability of our governance and stewardship and responsible investment teams is fully embedded within our ‘focus on change’ investment process.”

Paris added: “This new role will enable us to enhance our client offering in an area where we are already regarded as market leaders and will ensure that Standard Life Investments continues to be at the forefront of stewardship and ESG investment.

“Finally I would like to take this opportunity to thank Guy Jubb for his contribution to the business and in particular for over the last 20 years, where he has played a major role in helping to build Standard Life Investments’ reputation as a leader in the governance and stewardship arena.”

Jubb will continue to lead SLI’s engagement with companies until he retires on 31 March.
