Slateford tragedy: Bishop asks for prayers for family of lost kids

TODAY tributes for the tragic family continued to pour in.

Bells have been tolled and special prayers made for the Riggis, who were members of St Mary's Cathedral on Aberdeen's Huntly Street.

The Bishop of Aberdeen called people of all religions to pray for them.

Bishop Peter Moran said: "I would like to think that many people, even those outside the Catholic Church, will be praying for the family.

"We were very distressed to hear about this."

The cathedral's assistant priest, Juniper Adams, also paid tribute to the family.

He said: "It is just heartbreaking. I didn't know them very well, but I did know them.

"They came into the church and I would chat to the husband. They always seemed a lovely family when they came in. It is tragic.

"The children were lovely."

Bell ringer Evelyn Murray added: "St Mary's bell ringers tolled the bell for five minutes for the Riggi family and we also held private prayers in the bell tower.

"The two young boys were confirmed in St Mary's Cathedral at Easter. It is very, very sad."

The family home was still in darkness today, with blinds drawn.

It was also reported today that Cecilia had been so excited about her sixth birthday that she had started handing out party invitations before a date or venue had been set.

A friend of the family from Skene said one of her last memories of the family was of Mrs Riggi as the doting mother planning a party for her excited daughter.
