Skye tribute to designer Alexander McQueen

A MEMORIAL headstone marking legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen's final resting place was unveiled yesterday on the Isle of Skye.

Sculptor Andrew Tanser, 46, designed the large rough boulder in the cemetery in Kilmuir, where Mr McQueen is buried.

Artist Eric Marland engraved the green-slate boulder with words chosen by the designer's family: "Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind."

The durable materials were chosen to withstand the harsh weather conditions at the exposed cemetery and maintain the monument for future generations.

Mr Tanser said that Mr McQueen's family had asked for their son's "quiet" nature to be reflected in the stone.

He said: "It was real pleasure to work on the memorial with the family. I have always had great respect for McQueen's work.

"I was approached by the family after they found me on the internet. They liked the work I did and they asked me to do Alexander's headstone."

Mr McQueen, 40, whose real name was Lee Alexander McQueen, hanged himself in his Mayfair apartment on the eve of his mother's funeral.
