Ski centre awaits Olympic rings decision

Midlothian Snowsports Centre is waiting to hear if it will house the Olympic rings.

Lord Coe, London 2012 Organising Committee chairman, responded to an invitation from Midlothian Council Provost Adam Montgomery to host the rings at the centre.

In a letter, Lord Coe said the invitation had been passed to the Government Olympic Executive, which is overseeing the rings project.

The Provost wrote to Lord Coe at the end of last year suggesting Hillend would be an ideal location for the Olympic rings. The rings would be visible from Edinburgh, West Lothian, Fife and East Lothian, as well as being on a flight path into Edinburgh Airport.

Councillor Montgomery said: “The history of Olympians training at Midlothian Snowsports Centre and the thousands of people who see Hillend on a daily basis make the centre an ideal location for the rings.”
