Six-year jail term for man who killed with golf club

A FORMER bank worker was jailed for six years and four months yesterday after killing a father-to-be in an attack with a golf club.

Liam Peters, 23, of Elderslie, Renfrewshire, struck Kevin Duffy, 20, over the head with the weapon, which broke, and then hit him with the remaining shaft.

Advocate depute Simon Bowie told the High Court in Edinburgh that Mr Duffy's partner was 30 weeks pregnant at the time and he never saw his daughter Teighan, now one.

Lord Turnbull told Peters: "By your violent conduct the life of another young man was taken."

Lord Turnbull said he would have jailed Peters for eight and a half years for the attack, on 11 June last year, but would reduce the sentence because he had offered to plead guilty to culpable homicide.
