Sir Ranulph Fiennes is honoured as a Doctor of Science by Robert Gordon University

EXPLORER Sir Ranulph Fiennes was honoured with a degree from a Scottish university yesterday and admitted: "I only got four O-Levels".

The adventurer, who conquered Everest and crossed both polar icecaps on foot, was given the honorary degree of Doctor of Science by Robert Gordon University.

The 66-year-old lecturer, author and journalist, who served in the SAS, was given the title for his contributions to science.

Yesterday, Sir Ranulph, OBE, modestly accepted the award at a graduation ceremony at His Majesty's Theatre, Aberdeen. He admitted: "I feel slightly hypocritical because I only got four O-Levels.

"I tried to get more, but only managed four. So a Doctor of Science sounds like I've got brains."
