Sir Alex Ferguson supports lung cancer charity

SIR Alex Ferguson has lent his support to a charity that helps people with the disease both his parents died from.

The Manchester United manager has joined the 15th anniversary celebrations of the Scottish office for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in his home town of Glasgow.

“Both of my parents were from Glasgow and both died from lung cancer so this is a cause which is very close to my heart,” Sir Alex said.

“I know how much this disease affects my home town which is why the work of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is so important. I am proud to help them celebrate their 15th anniversary in Glasgow and wish them all the best for the 
future.”

Lung cancer is responsible for most cancer deaths in Scotland, at 4,000 people a year, an average of 11 people a day.

Glasgow has one of the highest rates of the disease in the country.
