Fireworks ban put in place in Cumbernauld after significant gas leak

Gas company SGN said: Our engineers have made substantial progress this evening with the first stage of the repair. We’ve stopped the major leak and the exclusion zone has been lifted.

“We still have some essential works which we'll be undertaking over the next week during which time the road closures will need to remain in place.

“If you smell gas or have any safety concerns, call the National Gas Emergency Number on 0800 111 999.

An exclusion zone was put into place after the gas leak at Lye Brae between Carbrain and Kildrum was discovered.

For safety reasons, fireworks were banned in the area.

A local resident, from Tarbolton Road near Lye Brae said she was told to keep her windows shut and said that the engineers have been there since Wednesday.

SGN engineers have put an exclusion zone in place at Lye Brae between Carbrain and Kildrum, Cumbernauld, where there is a significant gas leak.

Police Scotland confirmed that officers are in attendance assisting SGN.
