Short wait to see specialist

THE wait for patients to see a hearing specialist in the Lothians is shorter than almost anywhere else in Scotland.

Once contact is made with a GP, Lothians residents only have to wait an average of five weeks before an audiology appointment becomes available. In some areas of the country, the delay is more than double that.

The statistics were released through the Scottish Parliament after a question from Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Elizabeth Smith.

Only in Lanarkshire is the timescale shorter.
