'Shopwatch' stops thefts

A "SHOPWATCH" scheme designed to clamp down on in-store thefts has attracted more than 50 retailers in North Berwick.

From a recent review of crime data, it emerged there was only one theft by shoplifting recorded in the town in one month - from an unattached outlet that has since joined the scheme.

A similar initiative, "Pubwatch", aimed at bars, may now be introduced. A community police told community councillors recently that licensees were keen to launch such a venture.
