Shoppers fear 'Tesco tax'

SUPERMARKET giant ASDA last night published a poll showing strong public support against the SNP's flagship policy to raise millions of pounds by levying extra rates on the biggest retailers.

Almost two thirds of those surveyed by Populus said the so-called "Tesco Tax" would damage the prospect of new jobs and investment in Scotland.

And 74 per cent said they thought the 30 million policywould harm the country's reputation as a good place to do business.

The proposal is a key plank of the SNP administration's budget plans, which are due to be voted on by MSPs on 9 February.
