Shoplifter’s request to go to jail granted

A SHERIFF granted a shoplifter’s request after he asked to be sent to jail.

Ian Wilson was ordered to serve 160 days in prison after he pleaded guilty to shoplifting and resisting arrest.

Wilson, 24, of Addiewell, West Lothian, admitted struggling and fighting with police after he stole alcohol from Addiewell Superstore on Tuesday. He also admitted twice breaching a restriction of liberty order imposed earlier for assaulting a custody officer.

Glenn Fraser, defending, told Livingston Sheriff Court: “He doesn’t want to waste the court’s time by starting another order and failing.”
