Shop assistant flees as robber pulls out knife

A MAN brandished a knife at a female shop assistant before making off with a four-figure sum of cash during an alleged armed robbery.

The suspect walked into the Open All Hours convenience store in Eskview Terrace, Musselburgh at around 9pm on Sunday.

It is alleged that when the man pulled out the knife, the woman working behind the counter fled the premises and the suspect grabbed the money.

A police spokesman said: "The woman who was working in the shop has been left understandably shaken.

"The suspect was seen making off into Riverside Gardens, and was spotted a short time later in Stoneybank Gardens North, and we want anyone who saw him in the area to contact police immediately."

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and was due to appear at Haddington Sheriff Court today.
