Shetland lorry crash claims woman victim

A woman was killed following a crash involving her car and a lorry in Shetland

The horror collision occurred on the A970 Sumburgh to Lerwick road at Cunningsburgh, 10 miles south of the island capital.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The collision involved a large goods vehicle and a motor car.

“The female driver of the motor car was conveyed by ambulance to the Gilbert Bain Hospital , Lerwick, where she died.

“Details of the driver are not being released at this time.”

The road was closed overnight as officers from the divisional road policing unit carried out investigations.
