Shelter urges housing action

A LEADING housing charity has called on the Scottish Government to build more homes.

Shelter Scotland also said existing levels of housing stock should be protected and refurbished, as part of a drive to tackle the shortage of affordable rented homes across the country.

The call comes in the charity's submission to the government's housing discussion paper.

Graeme Brown, Shelter Scotland director, said: "There has never been a more important time to make housing a priority.

"Building more affordable homes not only provides a public asset and job opportunities, it also puts a roof over the head of a struggling family."
