Sex swap warden sues police

A SEX swap traffic warden is taking legal action against Lothian and Borders Police, claiming she was bullied out of her job.

Jan Irvine, 57, claims her managers victimised her when she started wearing women's clothes and make-up to work.

Ms Irvine - formerly known as Ian - had a sex-change operation in 2004 and at the time was held as an example of the force's attitude towards equality. But after a string of alleged bullying incidents, she resigned in December 2009 and is suing the force for unfair dismissal on the grounds of sex discrimination.

At a tribunal in Edinburgh yesterday, Ms Irvine claimed her supervisor and another inspector had put together a "secret dossier" of e-mails and memos about her and claims they showed her no respect.

Judge Craig said she would issue a written judgment in four to six weeks.
