Sex offender who posed as adult film and reality TV producer jailed for 10 years

Steven Dick, 36, was told by a judge that he had committed a series of serious offences for his own sexual gratification.

Lord Doherty said the rape had involved detaining and assaulting the victim in Dick’s home.

“You subjected her to a painful and terrifying experience to impose your will on her and to satisfy your own desires,” he stated.

Lord Doherty added: “These offences demonstrated deviousness, dishonesty and depravity on your part. The motivation was your own sexual gratification and you went to elaborate efforts to achieve your aim.”

Dick, of Burntisland, Fife, was also told he would remain on the sex offenders’ register “for the remainder of your life.”

He was convicted of six charges after a trial last month at the High Court in Edinburgh.

The most serious was the rape of a 33-year-old woman in February last year. She gave evidence that she knew Dick and went to his home after he said he wanted to speak to her. He ushered her into a bedroom with his hand against her back.

“He was quite threatening. I felt I was trapped in the room,” she said.

She tried to punch him but he struck back and she ended up in a “crumpled heap” on the floor. She was bound to the bed with cable ties and tape.

“I believed he was going to kill me. At the same time, I could not accept I was going to die. I decided to co-operate with him. I did not see what else I could do. I was not able to reason my way out of the situation, or physically fight my way out. I did not want to be raped but I wanted to survive,” she said.

Following the incident, the woman asked her work for a move abroad and she went to Sweden. Colleagues were instructed not to give out information if anyone came looking for her, and Swedish police assigned her a protection officer.

In September last year, she learned that someone had been asking about her in Stockholm, and police met Dick and his brother, Stuart Dick, 26, as they arrived at Edinburgh Airport from Sweden.

The jury found not proven a charge that Dick and his brother, of Thornhill, Stirlingshire, had conspired to murder the woman and had tracked her down to Sweden. It was the only charge Stuart Dick had faced and he was freed. As well as the rape, Dick was found guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by concealing or destroying evidence of the attack.

He pleaded guilty to four offences of obtaining sexual favours by fraud, by pretending to audition women for a television reality show or adult film.

He placed adverts on a website claiming to represent a film or television company, and four women went to his home for an audition on different occasions between December 2009 and January 2011.

He persuaded the women to strip and to be filmed. Three of them performed sex acts on Dick and one of the three also had sexual intercourse with him.

A 23-year-old beauty therapist told the trial she had been lured by the chance of becoming “Britain’s next top glamour star”.

Dick told her she could secure a place on the television show if she performed a sex act on him, but she refused. She sent an email of complaint to the company she had thought was behind the advert, and referred to Dick as “a big fat pervert” and “a disgusting man”. She had written: “Is this whole thing a con? I have never been so scared or degraded in my life.”

Dick told the jury he wanted to apologise to the women and that he accepted his behaviour had been “despicable.”
