Sex offender who followed mother home on bike faces life behind bars

Lloyd MacDonald, 18, repeatedly stared at the woman and her toddler son as he followed them to their home.

During the incident, police telephoned to check on him, and he said he was “out and about, cycling”.

MacDonald, of Hill Street, Dingwall, Easter Ross, admitted a breach of the peace by putting the 36-year-old mother in a state of fear and alarm for her safety and that of her child on 9 March this year.

The High Court in Edinburgh was told MacDonald had a previous conviction for a similar offence, and the judge, Lady Stacey, called for a background report, which could lead to an order for lifelong restriction, and continued the case until October.

The advocate-depute, Leanne Cross, said the previous conviction for a sexually aggravated breach of the peace had been dated 5 August last year, and MacDonald was sentenced to eight months’ detention, although he was released under licence on 27 October.

A five-year sexual offences prevention order was put in place, with conditions that MacDonald did not approach or communicate with any child under 16 or any adult in the company of a child under 16.

“He is the subject of weekly Mappa (multi-agency public protection arrangements) meetings in order to manage the level of risk he is considered to pose to the community,” Ms Cross told the court.

“He also has weekly psychology appointments.”
