Sex attacker must wait to learn fate

A CONVICTED sex attacker who beat a bid to be deported will have to wait to learn his fate for carrying out a string of rapes.

Chan Wright, 39, has already been warned he could face a life sentence for the crimes. He was earlier convicted of raping and brutalising three women in a series of assaults in Edinburgh, West Lothian, Angus and Aberdeenshire over a 15-year period.

Lord Kinclaven previously called for a full risk assessment report to be prepared on Wright, which could lead to the making of an Order for Lifelong Restriction.

But when Wright appeared for sentence yesterday at the High Court in Edinburgh the report was not ready.

The judge said the risk assessor had requested an extension of the period for submitting the report. Lord Kinclaven agreed to continue Wright’s case until March 22 at a sitting of the court in Perth.

He also continued a Crown call for a deportation recommendation to be made and remanded the rapist in custody.

The Jamaican had already served a four-year jail sentence for raping a 19-year-old woman in Livingston.
