Sex attacker caged after raping pregnant girl, 16

Craig Cormack pounced on his victim at a house in West Lothian in 2007 which he claimed happened as "the monster was back".

The 23 year-old former lifeguard had previously attacked her in 2005 while she was pregnant and aged just 16.

Cormack today appeared at the High Court in Glasgow after earlier admitting to the two rapes.

Judge Lord Kinclaven locked him up for seven years and ordered that he be monitored for a further three years on his release.

The judge told Cormack that the jail-term would have been nine years, but for his guilty pleas.

The terrifying attack in June 2007 happened on the day Cormack turned 21.

He forced himself on the girl – then 18 – after offering to show her a "prank" of how he planned to tie up a friend, who was also celebrating his birthday.

The victim did not think anything of it and allowed him to use curtain tie backs on her hands at the house in Livingston.

But, Cormack instead undid his trousers, pulled down the girl's and raped her after she failed to break free.

She did not go to police until a year later because she did not want Cormack's young child to know he was a rapist.

The victim also reported she had been raped by him in 2005 at another property in West Lothian.

Cormack, of Calderhall Avenue, East Calder, was later quizzed and he claimed he had "no control" during the attack in 2007.

However, he said his victim was "talking crap" when asked about the first rape.

The court heard that Cormack wrote a letter to the young woman which stated: "I felt like the monster was back".

The victim is now scared of the dark and being alone and has been prescribed anti-depressants.

John Scott, defending, said Cormack – deemed a medium risk of re-offending – appeared "genuinely regretful" at what went on.

Lord Kinclaven told Cormack: "The court has to mark the seriousness of your offences."

Cormack was also placed on the sex offenders' list.
