Sex attack on teenage girl outside club

Police are hunting a man in his early twenties after a teenage girl was raped in a "terrifying attack" outside a nightclub in the early hours yesterday.

The 19-year-old was indecently assaulted by a man in bushes near a car park at about 2:45am after leaving the Basement Nightclub in St Mungo's Walk, Cumbernauld, police said.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 20 and 25, approximately 5ft 10in, with short, dark brown hair.

He was wearing dark blue denim jeans, a light-coloured patterned v-neck jumper and had a silver hoop earring in his left ear.

Detective Inspector John Jack, from Strathclyde Police's Cumbernauld CID, said: "The young lady was subjected to a terrifying attack and has been left traumatised. We know from our inquiries so far that she was assaulted in the bushes and undergrowth just a short distance from the club, near the car park.

"We also believe her attacker had been at the club, but he is not known to her."
