Sex and blackmail claims at Jack Frew murder trial

Craig Roy told his sister that the schoolboy he allegedly murdered had been blackmailing him and asking him for sex, a court was told today.

The teenager told his sister Robyn that he had slit Jack Frew’s throat, according to the statement she gave police.

Roy, 19, is accused of murdering Mr Frew, who was 16, in a wooded area in East Kilbride on May 6 2010. He denies the offence and is on trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

It is alleged that he repeatedly struck and stabbed the boy on the neck and body with a knife.

David Burns QC, defending, has said there was no dispute that his client, originally from East Kilbride, struck the teenager repeatedly with a knife.

Jennifer Bain, prosecuting, read from the statement which Robyn Roy, 17, gave police on May 6 2010 after the alleged incident describing a phone call with her brother.

In it, Ms Roy said: “I asked him what he had done to Jack and he said ‘I’ve slit Jack’s throat’.

“I asked why. He said ‘he has been blackmailing me, it was only meant to be a threat’. He went on to tell me Jack had pushed him when he took the knife out.

“He said Jack had been pestering him and annoying him.

“He had slept with Jack and Jack had been asking him for sex ever since. Jack was blackmailing him.”

Ms Bain asked the witness whether that was what she told police, and she replied: “Yes.”
