Seven people in hospital after Campbeltown blaze

SEVEN people were taken to hospital after they were rescued from a house fire today.

Firefighters rescued the four children and three adults from a property in Saddell Street, Campbeltown in Argyll at around 4.30am.

They were taken to Campbeltown Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and the children have since been released.

Around 15 firefighters from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue remained at the scene at 7am tackling the blaze.

Meanwhile, a pensioner killed in a fire in his home was named by police today.

Thomas Oliver, 75, was found dead in his flat in in Thornliebank, East Renfrewshire, yesterday.

Emergency services were at the scene at 10am after neighbours said they heard a smoke alarm going off in the flat.

Police said there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances, but a post-mortem examination will take place to find out the exact cause of death.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
