Sessions to offer elderly safety advice

Interactive sessions are to be held to teach older people and their carers of the potential dangers of electrical equipment in the home.

The city council has received 5000 from the Electrical Safety Council to run the sessions in partnership with the fire service. They will be held at the Risk Factory, the centre used by the council since 2007 to educate young people in coping with and avoiding risk.

Health and social care convenor Councillor Paul Edie said: "These sessions are important, not only do they educate older people on the many possible dangers in the home, they also have a fun, social element to them. These sessions will hopefully inform and educate older people and carers about the many dangers which lurk in a home and help avoid the tragedy of a fire."
