Service is on the right track

TRANSPORT chiefs have published a report rating the quality of service on Scotland's railways.

Transport Scotland's Squire (Service Quality Incentive Regime) system monitors the passenger experience across a range of areas, from litter to services, at all 344 ScotRail stations, as well as on board all trains throughout Scotland.

While performance has improved overall, the areas where there is still room for improvement include litter, station toilets, train toilets, destination board and passenger information and passenger announcements.

Steve Montgomery, managing director of ScotRail, said: "We welcome the significant fall in penalties. It is a step in the right direction, especially with ever more rigorous standards set by one of the UK's toughest regimes."
