Serial sex offender is jailed again

A MAN who made sexual remarks to a 17-year old girl as she walked home has been jailed for four months, placed on the Sex Offenders Register and made the subject of a Sex Offenders Prevention Order for five years.

Robert Gibson, 58, of St Andrew Street, Dalkeith, pled guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by making sexually offensive remarks to the girl and causing her to suffer fear and alarm. The incident took place in Crawlees Road in Mayfield, Dalkeith, on April 2 this year.

Sentencing Gibson, Sheriff Kenneth Maciver told him: "You have a dreadful record of sexual offending going back 40 years, mainly for indecent exposure. You have been in prison several times on account of this. I do not consider I have any realistic option, but to impose a custodial sentence".
