Senseless act of violence

DETECTIVES have launched a murder investigation after a young man was killed outside a Lanarkshire pub.

Matthew Martin, 20, was assaulted outside the Montgomerie Bar, East Kilbride, at about 11:20pm on Sunday. His body was found early on Monday morning outside the Village Inn.

Police said CCTV images showed there were about 12 people in the vicinity of the Montgomerie Bar.

Detective Superintendent Alan Buchanan said: "We know that Matthew was the victim of a violent attack and that a number of people were in the area at the time, and would have witnessed the assault and seen his attacker. We are in the process of tracing these witnesses."
