Seized crime cash boosts youth projects

HALF-a-million pounds seized from criminals will be handed over to Scottish youth groups, it was announced today.

Six youth organisations, including the Scouts and Girl Guides, will share 500,000 taken from criminals through the CashBack for Communities programme.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said: "This is a perfect example of bad money being used for good purposes, by turning cash seized from crooks into funds supporting the work of six very deserving youth organisations."

The money, available over two years, follows similar giveaways which the Scottish Government claims have helped more than 100,000 young people.

Mr MacAskill added: "I'm pleased this money can be put towards more great projects to benefit young people across Scotland."

Youth Scotland will administer the cash, which will be targeted at areas where clubs are under-represented.
