Segway millionaire died 'as a result of a fall', say police

A POST-MORTEM examination has confirmed that a millionaire businessman, who died while apparently riding a Segway scooter made by his own company, died as "a result of a fall", police said.

Jimi Heselden, 62, was found in the River Wharfe at Boston Spa, near Wetherby, West Yorkshire, on Sunday after accidentally plunging from 30ft cliff. His Segway was found nearby.

Yesterday, police investigating the incident for the coroner appealed for anyone who saw Mr Heselden on Sunday to come forward.

A spokesman said: "Police are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen James Heselden on Sunday morning in the time leading up to his death. Mr Heselden is described as a white male, with short white hair, 5ft 7in in height, average build, and was wearing black trousers, black shoes, a light blue shirt and a white sports jacket.

"He is thought to have been using a black and silver Segway-type vehicle on an elevated path that runs alongside the River Wharfe and was travelling in the direction of Leys Lane from Boston Spa between 11am and 11.30am."

The spokesman said a post-mortem examination determined that Mr Heselden "died from injuries consistent with a fall".

His family, many of whom paid an emotional visit to the accident scene, described their grief at Mr Heselden's death.
