See the light at Waverley

WORKERS are expected to step up their activity at Waverley Station this week ahead of the imminent arrival of new glass roof panels designed to brighten up its gloomy atmosphere.

Final approval is expected imminently for the roof's replacement as part of a 130 million overhaul.

Around 17,000 glass panels will flood the 164-year-old station with extra light. In a separate part of the project, the Waverley Steps from Princes Street will be replaced with lifts and escalators, and the Market Street entrance on the south side of the station revamped.

Project leader Peter Chong said: "We want to give it a 'wow' factor."
