Security man wins award for tackling two raiders

A SECURITY guard has insisted he was only doing his job after landing a bravery award for tackling two raiders breaking into a warehouse.

Moses Afolaranmi, 39, was on duty at Internacionale in Sighthill, Glasgow, when he spotted an intruder who had broken into the complex.

He grabbed the man and wrestled him to the ground, before a second intruder appeared and tried to free his accomplice.

Mr Afolaranmi managed to detain both and call for help. Before the police arrived, the two broke free, but he seized gloves, a balaclava and a shoe from them as they fled.

Police were later able to track down the raiders using DNA samples on their clothes.

Mr Afolaranmi, from Glasgow, said: "I am really proud to have won the award, although I was only doing my job.

"Looking back, I realise I could have been in a spot of bother tackling two raiders at the same time. But I was so concerned with catching them that I didn't give my own safety a thought."

Mr Afolaranmi, who has worked for Reliance Security for three years, won the outstanding act award in the Scottish round of the British Security Industry Association sec-urity personnel awards.

Grainne Kelly, Reliance's operations manager in Scotland, said: "Moses' actions went above and beyond the call of duty, and he richly deserves his award.

"He was not required to catch the intruders but simply deter them.

"Moses works every weekend nightshift on this particular site and his courageous action is typical of his consistently excellent level of service."

Alan Don, head of loss prevention at Internacionale Retail, said: "His vigilance meant that our losses in this incident were nominal."
