Security guard abducted by digger thieves

A SECURITY guard is in hospital with serious head injuries after being abducted by a gang who stole a digger from a building site.

Four men broke into his hut at the construction yard in Catacol Grove, East Kilbride, assaulted him and then bundled him into a white van.

They stole a large yellow digger and drove off in that and the van, along Auldhouse Road, but crashed and abandoned the digger near Broadbent Farm.

The group then drove the 52-year-old guard a short distance in the van before abandoning him and the vehicle near Langlands Golf Course. They then sped off in a red Seat Leon car.

Police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and found the guard in the back of the van. There were weapons nearby that were thought to belong to the suspects.

The victim was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where he was treated for serious head injuries.

The suspects were all wearing camouflage-style clothing.
