Second man arrested as town of Blantyre pays tribute to tragic teenager

A SECOND man was arrested today in connection with the death of a teenager who was stabbed as he walked home with a friend after watching a football game in a bar.

An 18 year-old is being held by police over the death of Reamonn Gormley.

The 19-year-old Celtic supporter died on Tuesday night after he was attacked in Blantyre, South Lanarkshire.

Last night, a 22-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the death.

Today, more than a thousand people took part in a march in memory of the teenager.

Today's walk, which was promoted on a Facebook page set up in Mr Gormley's memory, started and ended at the Parkville - the bar where he watched an Aberdeen v Celtic game.

Strathclyde Police estimated that between 1,200 and 1,400 people took part in the march.

John Tierney, one of the organisers of the walk, said he initially expected between 30 and 50 people to take part.

He said: "It's overwhelming. It's absolutely unbelievable and it's just shown that the good people of Blantyre have come out in tribute to one of our own.

"Our message is that Reamonn Gormley was one of our good people. What happened was an absolute tragedy.

"It's also shown that we, as a community, can join together. One of the most important things is that the Gormley family know that the community's behind them.

"The community is there in respect and in sympathy for them. Hopefully they can take a wee bit of strength from this.

"The family also gave us their blessing to do it, without which I wouldn't have done it.

"Blantyre's the kind of place where you know somebody that knows somebody. You're only a couple of footsteps away from somebody you know.

"He was one of our good people and that's why the whole town has turned out today. I think that's quite evident."
