Second capital stabbing in a week as man is knifed in street attack

A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital following a knife attack.

The incident took place in Sighthill at around 6pm last night, and is the second serious stabbing incident in the Capital inside a week, following the murder of Sean Hay in Granton.

Pools of blood and red splatters on pillars were clearly visible last night at a shopping centre in the area after the man was attacked just outside the Artful Dodger pub, off Calder Road.

The man staggered around the precinct before collapsing to his knees, at which point the emergency services were alerted.

Police cordoned off much of the area and the seriousness of the incident was evident as the man's jeans – which it is understood were cut off him as he was treated by medics – and shoes were left for forensic teams to examine.

Police at the scene were tight-lipped about what happened, and a

spokesman at the scene said only: "There has been a serious assault and the victim has been taken away by an ambulance. We can't say any more at this stage and we are still trying to establish exactly what happened."

Officers were speaking to scores of locals at the Artful Dodger pub – which was preparing for an evening of karaoke when police arrived to empty the pub – in a bid to glean information from possible witnesses.

Local fast food outlets were also being visited.

One shop worker at the scene last night said: "There was a big commotion and we all went out to see what it was. It looked like a guy had been stabbed in the leg but it was hard to tell."

Another by-stander added: "There's blood everywhere and the cops were here sharpish to seal it all off. There's always a bit of aggro round here but it doesn't usually get to this level.."

Police are still on the hunt for the killer of 23-year-old Sean Hay, who was stabbed to death in Granton on Tuesday night, reportedly over a drugs feud.

He was killed in front of his girlfriend Bonnie – who he had only been seeing for a short time – and the message "your dead" was found scrawled across her front door in the aftermath.
