Search of burnt-out Aberdeenshire cottage begins

AN INVESTIGATION will begin today to establish whether anyone was inside a cottage which burnt down overnight.

Fire crews were called to Hillhead Cottage at Balfour, Fettercairn in Aberdeenshire at around midnight.

Grampian Police said it is believed to be the home of an elderly woman but it is not known if anyone was inside at the time of the blaze.

The fire was extinguished by 1.30am.
